Happy New Years Eve Everyone! Since coming home for Christmas, I’ve taken a break from posting on Life of a Lady Bear to recharge and truly enjoy my time with my family. Before the clock hits midnight, I thought this would be the perfect chance to reflect on what a big year 2015 was for me! It truly was the year that everything fell into place and here are some of the wonderful things that I was blessed with this year!
Finishing College: Last year I made the hard decision to change career paths from Biomedical Science to Business. I left a field that I spent four entire years learning as much as I possibly could to move into an industry I literally knew nothing about, not knowing where it could lead me. After 9 months of studying and learning more than I could have imagined, I finished school in May with some great friends and memories to boot! Sadly I missed my graduation in October but it was a great year!
Moved to New York: After spending two Summers in The Big Apple, My boyfriend Cathal and I moved the New York. I know it seems like the most glamorous life in the world on Instagram and Snapchat but I have to be honest, moving here was without a doubt the toughest thing I ever did. Leaving my family (who I’m beyond close to) and trying to establish myself in the most competitive city in the world meant that I spent the entire first month homesick beyond belief (I was that girl crying on the subway and in the grocery store!). Thankfully as time passed, things started to fall into place, we found a nice place to live on the Upper East Side and I found a job I love and I haven’t looked back! New York city has taught me so much in the past 6 months and while it was a difficult transition I learned that nothing worth having comes easy!
Working with MTV: If you would have told me this time last year that I would end up as the Social Media Producer for MTV I would literally have laughed in your face! I still sometimes have to pinch myself walking into work sometimes and count my blessings that I’ve been given such a great start to my career (which never would have happened if it wasn’t for this blog by the way!). I work with a great bunch of people and I’m pushed to my creative limits each and every day! And I’ve even got to work with some of my favourite artists like Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding. This job has taught me that we all have the ability of achieving our dreams and after 6 months working here, my dreams for the future are bigger than ever!
Working at the VMA’s: This is without a doubt my 2015 highlight. Every year as a kid I used to watch this show and I still cant believe that I was there, that I met such huge artists, that I was on the red carpet and that I played a part in one of the biggest pop culture events of the year! My favourite moment was when I got a sneaky peek at The Weeknd’s closed rehearsal (which inspired me to book tickets for his concert in November)! Another highlight was being in an elevator with Macklemore AS YOU DO! Even getting to visit LA was such an amazing experience and I cant wait to travel there again in 2016.
Miscellaneous: I got to do quite a bit of travelling in 2015 between LA, NYC, Boston, Cape Cod, Connecticut and The Hamptons and I definitely hope to do more over the next few months! Seeing new cities and making new friends has made me feel richer than any amount of money ever could and I feel so thankful for the circle of friends that I have! Another fun moment was when I got to model at the Irish Design Showcase during New York Fashion Week! Oh and I LOVED LOVED LOVED when we went Pumpkin Picking for Halloween!
Whats ahead for 2016: While 2015 was the year dedicated to my career, 2016 is going to be the year that I give my all to this little blog of mine! There’s a lot of changes coming to Life of a Lady Bear in the coming weeks, all of which will hopefully make it more enjoyable for you guys! Then personally, I want this year to be the year I become the best version of myself both mentally and physically! I’m determined to live a life where I focus on being present and enjoying the moment that I’m in as you never know whats around the corner!
Finally, a big thank you to each and every one of you who read my blog and support me as I share a glimpse of my life with you guys! It isn’t easy putting yourself out there online but I’m so thankful that I’ve never received an ounce of anything but love and support from my readers and that means the world to me! I wish you and your families a happy and healthy new year!
