Happy Thursday Everyone! I’m settled back in NYC after a wonderful two weeks back home in Galway. Cathal’s sister was getting married so we went home for the wedding and of course I tagged on a couple of extra days for good measure. It’s no secret that I look forward to my trips home about twice a year and this particular one lived up to my highest expectations. I worked from home the first week so really didn’t get up to too much besides hanging out with family and a couple of beautiful sunset walks near my house. Once I finished up with work I tried to fit in as much as possible making a day trip to Kildare Village to do a little shopping, went on a road trip with all of my family to Achill Island, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen in my life and of course made plenty of time to catch up with as many friends as possible!

If you’re a long time follower of mine, you’ll know all too well about my struggles with missing home and how hard it is to leave every time. I can’t even begin to explain the nervous sensation I get in my tummy like clockwork two days before I return to New York. It starts with a small bit of anxiety and then turns into a full 48 hours of waterworks. And I know it’s so silly that I react so badly to leaving considering the fact that I’m very lucky to live a lovely life in New York but there’s just  something about being home makes me think a little more clearly about things. This particular trip home made me realize that I’ve started to live life in New York almost in auto-pilot mode, going through the motions of working 24/7, waiting for the next big work event and trying to fit in as many exercise classes into the week as possible to help me deal with the stress of it all. I’ve always known that I had a poor work-life balance but being at home with family and friends really reminded me that there’s more to life than your career, something that’s easily forgotten by a lot of people living in the Big Apple. That said, I know after a couple of weeks back in New York I’ll soon get into the swing of busy life again, but this time around I think I’m going to try my best to keep the bigger picture of what’s most important in life in the back of my mind. In the meantime here’s a couple of snaps from my time at home featuring my cute niece Charlotte (the love of my life) and my two fur babies Henry and Levi.
